Chanel: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 7, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

I remember watching Valentino Garavani’s documentary “The Last Emperor” and Karl Lagerfeld said to Valentino “compared to us, everyone else is making rags.” I LOL’ed at the time I heard it, but then thought, well “maybe he’s right.” He and Valentino are the two most timeless designers, period! Their pieces, no matter the collection, can find relevance in any era or season, and Karl Lagerfeld stuck to this roots for his couture collection:

Cropped tops over pencil skirts, structured jackets, and classic Chanel fur lined tweed suits, proved to be the key pieces in this collection. And each piece was topped off with matching boots. Most jackets and tops had puffy shoulders, but there were no extravagant dresses like its counterparts, but a simplistic, classic couture version of office ready suits. Read more…

Chanel’s Cassette Clutch

Posted by Tara Decoda on May 28, 2010 in Classic/Vintage/Era-Oriented, Designer, High-End, Shopping

First a light bulb heel, now a vintage clutch inspired by music? Karl Lagerfeld has to be one of the most innovative men in fashion. I don’t want to totally give him that title though, then I’d be pushing it (hello, Valentino?) But Karl Lagerfeld is a style genius, nonetheless:

This lucite relic clutch is a vintage clutch and is a big hit for the Spring 2010 season, as Fendi made a similar clutch this season, just a little more simplistic: Read more…

Chanel Resort 2011 Lookbook

Posted by Tara Decoda on May 25, 2010 in 'Tis The Season, Designer, High-End, Lookbook

As we prepare our summer swag’s with the threads we copped in the Fall, promising to kill ‘em when the season finally comes, the fashion world readies for next year. The norm, in case you didn’t know. One of the first brands to release their lookbook for Resort 2011, Karl Lagerfeld cast Georgia May Jagger to be the model, and Chanel favorite Baptiste Giabiconi as the backdrop:

Karl Lagerfeld Is In The Building… And Will Remain There

Posted by Tara Decoda on Mar 17, 2010 in Designers, High-End, Interviews

After rumors emerged about Karl Lagerfeld retiring, and that Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz would replace him, the house of Chanel released a statement via Vogue UK saying he isn’t going anywhere!

“Karl Lagerfeld is the creative designer of Chanel and has a long-term contract with the company. Replacing him is not an issue,” a Chanel rep said.

Why can’t all issued statements be this simple? Always so drawn out, accompanied by lengthy paragraphs and big words, all just to say one thing. Speaking of Karl Lagerfeld, I found this interview with him over at the Cut and thought it would make for a good early morning read. Very funny, and there’s a few iconic quotable’s there too: Read more…

Chanel's Lightbulb Heels (I Know, I'm Late!)

How could I have missed this? First seen on Chanel’s Fall 2008 runway, these technically advanced shoes is still all the rage 1 year and 3 seasons later. (Seriously, how could I have missed this?):

The shoes are made out of goat skin sprinkled with sequin and the lightbulb heels can unscrew and are battery operated so they can be used over and over again, and cost about $2,200:

For other shots of the shoe… Read more…

Vintage Chanel On Shop Bop

Posted by Tara Decoda on Nov 18, 2009 in Classic/Vintage/Era-Oriented, Designers, High-End

Oh, how we love us some Chanel! But with the original taste maker, Karl Lagerfeld, now finding himself trying to keep up with the Jones’ (or the Gucci’s), that fresh breath of what Coco started has sort of lost its breath. BUT, who the heck knew Shop Bop was reliving the good ole’ days of Chanel?

Vintage Chanel Pouchette Bag $2,750

Vintage Chanel Quilted Bag $3,850

Vintage Chanel Vinyl Bag $2,860

Milan Fashion Week: Fendi Spring 2010

Posted by Tara Decoda on Sep 27, 2009 in Designers, Fashion Shows, Fashion Week Haute-Ness, High-End

So we all know Fendi, and we’re familiar with the aesthetic. I was so excited when I saw this collection, it’s right up my alley. If I should revamp my wardrobe right now, and choose only one of these collections to wear for the remainder of Spring 2010, it would be this collection:

F1

F2

F3

F4

F5

F6

F7

It’s sheer, it’s feathers, it’s deconstruction and raw edges… did Fendi just reinvent the stripper shoe? For Spring, it’s seduction and glamour, according to Fendi. So whether you’re opting for the lucite and wood heel, the sheer top over a bra, or the feather shrug, there’s no one you won’t have under your spell!
