Valentino: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 9, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

The epitome of class. Paris Fashion Week wouldn’t be Paris Fashion Week, couture or otherwise, without the greatest designer of any decade sending his designs down the runway. Valentino, who is retired, has handed over the reigns to Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli and they have stayed true to his legacy and insistence of classic designs:

The collection was a story of romance, and if falling in love for the first time were to be relived through fashion, it would be through this collection. Sweet details included delicate bows, caged frocks, soft ruffles, baby doll silhouettes, rosette’s, feathers, and plenty of sheer and satin. This collection balances innocence and maturity, kind of like making love for the first time- and of course a Valentino collection wouldn’t be a Valentino collection if there was no red dress. Style Inspired: Kim Kardashian’s Striped Blazer

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 9, 2010 in Candids, Celebs, Cheap & Chic, High-End, Style Inspired

Looks like Kim K. has found a new fave wardrobe staple: the striped blazer. She first rocked a gray and black striped blazer while out and about in New York last week, pairing it with shorts and a white tank. She then rocked a black and white striped blazer, paired with distressed jeans, loose tank and YSL booties while running errands in Beverly Hills yesterday:

The striped blazer is a fun alternative to the office classic, the black blazer. Blazers has taken over a life of its own over the past couple years, coming in different variations, colors, and silhouettes and have been embraced by a more youthful generation wearing it with more casual looks. What was once deemed “uncool” or too serious, is now a wardrobe must-have! To spice up your wardrobe staple, I have found striped blazers for every budget! Read more…

Giorgio Armani Prive: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 8, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

When I saw this collection, I instantly thought of Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce Knowles. The two starlets are huge fans of the designer, and this collection proved why. His designs speak to their style souls:

Business suits and red carpet ready gowns walked down the runways past top-notch editors and buyers. Leather jackets, tweed skirt suits, tailored pants, and side draping on skirts and dresses to add structure danced on the models as surprise details such as hidden pockets made certain items that much more enticing. The pleat overlay, embroidery, and sequin on floor length gown made this collection the must wear during awards season. And call me crazy, but it was reminiscent of a Gucci collection. The vibe, hair, make-up… *Kanye shrug* Read more…

Stephanie Rolland: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 8, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

Stephanie Rolland rolled up her sleeves and delivered one of the strongest collections to be shown this week, giving true meaning to one of Marilyn Monroe’s most famous sayings: “I don’t mind living in a man’s world, as long as I can be a woman it!” There is a certain softness to clothing that some male designers can’t translate as good as women, and she proved that as well:

With a sharp attention to detail, the structured shoulders, puffy pleated hems and silhouettes that flatter pretty much any figure, embodied a strong sense of femininity. The colors fading into each other against sheer, leather and velvet added spunk to an overall “soft” aesthetic, and the use of embroidered tights and floor length dresses reaffirmed the season being shown. Zoe Saldana’s career has gained a significant boost over the past year-and-a-half, and her momentum still hasn’t slowed. Aside from her prestigious magazine covers and numerous awards, she can now add endorsement darling to the list of adjectives used to describe her.

She has joined the likes of Eva Mendes and Mechad Brooks as the face of Calvin Klein’s underwear models. She will be modeling the brands new line of underwear, Envy, and CK has released a preview of their first ad with her. About her new gig, she had this to say:

“Calvin Klein has always put forth such beautifully executed campaigns,” the Avatar star says in a statement. “It’s very exciting for me to be associated with such an iconic, globally recognized brand like Calvin Klein Underwear.”

Chanel: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 7, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

I remember watching Valentino Garavani’s documentary “The Last Emperor” and Karl Lagerfeld said to Valentino “compared to us, everyone else is making rags.” I LOL’ed at the time I heard it, but then thought, well “maybe he’s right.” He and Valentino are the two most timeless designers, period! Their pieces, no matter the collection, can find relevance in any era or season, and Karl Lagerfeld stuck to this roots for his couture collection:

Cropped tops over pencil skirts, structured jackets, and classic Chanel fur lined tweed suits, proved to be the key pieces in this collection. And each piece was topped off with matching boots. Most jackets and tops had puffy shoulders, but there were no extravagant dresses like its counterparts, but a simplistic, classic couture version of office ready suits. Read more…

Christian Dior: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 7, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

Leave it to John Galliano to send designs down the runway that would even make Lady Gaga blush!

Going against the standard Fall neutral color palette, John Galliano seemingly defied design gravity sending organza skirts bursting with color down the runway, and metaphorically referring to his designs as a gift to such an evolving industry by topping off almost every girl with a plastic wrap on their head. Purples, oranges, bright greens, reds, and exaggerated details such as harem styled bottoms, and seemingly 3D florals, this collection brought me back to the days of elementary art where you would glue colored tissue paper inside a heart, giving it a 3D effect, but could never stay within the lines. But don’t you remember how you still never risked the shape? Or in this case, the silhouette? Exactly. Read more…

Jean-Paul Gaultier: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 7, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

One of the designers to show this season is of course Mr. Jean-Paul Gaultier himself! Aside from him being one of my favorite designers, he is a damn good designers overall, always improving and raising the bar. For this collection, he walked with Dita Von Teese, in one of my favorite looks from this collection:

If the saying is true that silk is very unforgiving, then this collection is a big “EFF you” to the Hallmark apology cards. Plenty of silk and sheer, with very little embroidery, this collection featured exaggerated, sharp shoulders, and head pieces reminiscent of Grace Jones in the 70’s. He also sent models down the runway stroking violins. Did they sound good? Well, I wasn’t there. Did they look good? No, they looked ravishing.

Elie Saab: Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture F/W 2011

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 7, 2010 in Designer, Fashion Shows, High-End

Paris Fashion Week showcasing the haute couture collection of a few selected designers is currently underway in the fashion capital of the world. One of the first designers to show their collection, Elie Saab, really set the tone for Hollywood glamour:

With embroideries, extensive draping, and velvet are a few intricate details that danced around on the runway. This season, the designer used plenty of neutral color palettes– gold’s, pale green’s, burnt sienna and plenty of red! As I watch the looks from this collection, I would honestly wear everything! Never has a collection come my way and I loved every single piece. I expect to see plenty starlets wearing pieces from this collection. Read more…
