It’s been a decade already? Seems like just yesterday we were celebrating a new millennium, and the world not ending! Officially leaving the single digits and venturing into new, not-yet market territory, so many fly things and people came up in ‘09, and we must celebrate:
10: Va$htie Kola

Music video director, party producer, designer and B-girl Va$htie Kola has been on the forefront of style she emerged in the scene in 1999. Starting her career in directing (Solange’s “T.O.N.Y.”, Justin Beiber “One Less Lonely Girl”, and Common’s “Testify”), she later ventured into party producing (“1992″ and “Open”), and later launching her signature line VIOLETTE and VIOLETTE HOMME for men. Va$htie is definitely a girl to watch for!
9. Teyana Taylor

This singer and socialite has managed to keep herself in-demand and relevant through her style and persona. Though the 19-year-old seemingly has nothing professionally of merit, she was undeniably one of the most seen faces of 2009. Whether through photoshoots, brand campaigns & endorsements, Twitter or Ustream, her buzz is up there with the likes of the more talent-relevant stars like, say, Solange Knowles or Keri Hilson. Say what you want about what she does or doesn’t do, but her style is undeniable- and hey, at least she’s google-able!
8. Keri Hilson

2009 has definitely been good to Ms. Keri Baby, her album dropped and was a commercial success, and she had a lot more hit’s than misses on the fashion front. Touring and performing at almost every award show, and picking up accolades for her respected categories in music, she literally kept the hits in coming both in and out the booth.
7. Solange Knowles

*cues India.Arie’s “I Am Not My Hair”* The rebel soul Solange Knowles has always had a very different, very special (in a good way) sense of style, and she brought it all the way home in 2009! Whether it was bold unconventional colored lipstick (a la her green & electric blue lips), eyeshadow that looked like thin sliced Zorro masks in electric and pastel shades, or shaving her hair in the 4th quarter, Solo Dolo definitely never slipped up on style!
6. Zoe Saldana

Zoe was everywhere this year! While I have noticed Zoe since she starred in Drumline and Guess Who, the world didn’t seem to take notice since this year with her movies Star Trek and Avatar, but her acting ability wasn’t the only thing that shined- so did her style! Playing with different looks and trends, she was definitely making the right choices when it came to hitting the red carpets for her many movie premiere’s local and overseas.

So to follow up with my ‘Best Of 2008: Mommies’ post, I have another compilation of the Best Dressed Of 2008– T.V. Stars. Whether it’s reality T.V. or scripted T.V. (in this age, you really can’t tell the difference!) I have MY 10 best dressed ladies on T.V.:
Number 10: Kimora Lee Simmons

Life In The Fab Line, Reality T.V. (E! & Style Networks)
I vote Kimora for the flyest and most fabulous mama on T.V., hands down! She gave new meaning to office attire, never wearing the predictable, boring business suits or knee length skirts. Very fun, and loud her style rings true to her persona. It’s vibrant, it’s over-the-top and it’s fabulous! Ming & Aoki Lee have some big shoes to fill.
Number 9: Kim Kardashian

Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Reality T.V. (E! Network)
Kim Kardashian, obviously the more known of the Kardashian clan, never disappoints when it comes to style. But were you expecting her too? I mean, she was a stylist first.
Number 8: Angela Simmons

Run’s House, Reality T.V. (MTV)
Angela seems to be the more crazy, fun one of the set of sisters, and her style is true to her personality. It’s very young, fun and carefree, and she stays on top of trends. In this ever revolving door of fashion, Angela always make sure she’s in instead of out.
Number 7: Vanessa Simmons

Run’s House, Reality T.V. (MTV)
Vanessa is obviously the more mature sister, and her style proves the same. While Angela likes to play with colors and trendy pieces, Vanessa keeps it fresh and classic by mixing wardrobe staples and never going over board with the accessories. She plays it safe without being overly boring. Great way to straddle the fence Ness.
Number 6: Whitney Port

The Hills & The City, Reality T.V. (MTV)
Whitney Port would have to be my favorite cast member on The Hills. For one, she’s a lot more laid back and least dramatic than the other girls, and not to mention the most stylish. It’s obvious that fashion is her thing, and she never lets us forget it. Best of luck to Whit with her new gig at DVF and her new show The City (which will be premiering on MTV some time this week).
Number 5: Becki Newton

Ugly Betty, Scripted T.V. (ABC)
Ugly Betty’s bad girl, Amanda, commands attention every room she walks into. Either it’s her conniving, sarcastic attitude or her great sense of fashion, we don’t know, although I choose to go with the latter. Always in top-notch designer duds and ‘it’ shoes and accessories, it leaves you wondering…. how much does MODE pay her to be the receptionist? And where can I sign up?

It seems like everyone was having babies in 2008! But with celebrities, it’s different. With the never ending lights and the paparazzi that seem to have more right to your space than you do- not even a hair could be out of place. Pregnant or not. So, for the mommies who kept that in mind, I have a BEST DRESSED MOMMIES OF 2008 list for you:
6. Angelina Jolie

While expecting her 14th child (okay, maybe not number 14), the seasoned mom kept everything at a minimum. Never wanting to take too much attention off of her growing tummy, she kept it stylishly simple with floor sweeping gowns, basic colors and simple hair.
5. Ashlee Simpson

The eternally pregnant Ashlee Simpson blazed her own fashion trail while expecting her first child with husband, Pete Wentz. She mixed rocker-hippe with a little splash of Cali so effortlessly by pairing headbands, and printed dresses with over sized sunglasses. Not to mention her bone straight orange/red hair kept the rock star in her alive.
4. Jessica Alba

Looks like being pregnant for Jessica Alba meant never feeling more sexy, as she stated while pregnant. This stylish girly-girl stayed true to her femininity and simplicity in show stopping red carpet frocks, and on her days off, the fabulousness still ensued in simple maxi dresses and cardigans.
3. Gwen Stefani

While expecting her second child, this singer/designer kept her retro rock-star style in tact. Gwen stuck to A-line tops and long maxi dresses, but mixed in distracting animal prints, leather jackets, her signature aviator shades and her very own L.A.M.B accessories. And she still managed to keep her bleach blonde hair in place.
2. Halle Berry

Ms. Berry didn’t go for the usual suspects- maxi dresses and baby doll tops- while expecting little Nahla Ariela, this Oscar winner kept her effortless street chic style by rocking belly button bearing shirts, leather jackets, body hugging jeans and must-have bags. She even brought her new look up a notch with funky spiral curls during the last months. This first time mommy was prouder than proud of that baby bump! Can we blame her? She looked damn good. She made me want to go get pregnant. Wait…. never mind.
