The Kardashians To Open Dash In NYC?

Posted by Tara Decoda on Aug 4, 2010 in Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs

According to The New York Post, it’s looking like it. After running two successful Dash spots in Calabasas, CA and Miami, and a Kardashian Khaos store opening in Las Vegas soon, it looks like New York will be the next city that will catch Kardashian Fever:

According to the Post, the Kardashian girls are searching for spots throughout the Meatpacking District of Manhattan:

“[Kourtney] Kardashian, with her son, Mason, checked out a space on West 14th Street near the Apple store and Abe & Arthur’s.”

And a rep for the clan say:

“Though they are always looking… there are no plans at the moment.”

Hmm… Well we know the Kardashian’s don’t stay quiet for long! Someone will confirm or deny very soon. This will be a good look for the girls, if true. Like I say time and time again, you can not knock their hustle…

Katy Perry Speaks On Her New Fragrance

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 23, 2010 in Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs, Fragrance

Katy Perry is bringing her California Gurl style to the fragrance sector of the beauty industry:

Her fragrance will be called “Purr by Katy Perry” and we’re guessing its in honor of her favorite girl- her cat Kitty Purry. But don’t expect some half-ass celeb scent, because Katy is pulling out all the stops, even seeking (and gaining) approval from her cat:

“You can put all the bells and whistles on things, and it can still smell like s–t,” Perry told the group of about 25 beauty editors and Nordstrom executives. “I was very particular about this.…I couldn’t put out something that I didn’t 100 percent believe in. Even my cat, Kitty Purry, likes it.”

As far as the usual gift with purchase, in an effort to entice consumers? Not happening. Read more…

Mary J. Blige Launches “My Life” Fragrance

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 6, 2010 in Beauty News, Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs, Fragrance

Mary J. Blige has joined the celebrity side hustle of celebrity fragrances by launching her fragrance “My Life,” which commemorates her classic album of the same title, and also celebrates her journey. She held the launch during the Essence Music Festival, alongside Carol’s Daughter founder Lisa Price:

From what I hear, the fragrance smells really great! About the fragrance, Mary took to her Twitter and had this to say:

“The fragrance of my life! I use it every day smell so good! Ladies I think you will love it!”

This is not only a big step for Mary, but for Lisa Price as well. This is the first celebrity fragrance released by the natural skin care company, the same company which Mary is an investor and endorser. This fragrance will retail for $46 a bottle, and $1 from every bottle sale will go towards Mary’s non-profit FFAWN, which is an organization geared towards the aiding of disadvantaged women.

Victoria Beckham To “Put The Range In The Rover”

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jul 5, 2010 in Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs

I know Lil’ Kim said that first on her “Jump Off” track, but she didn’t mean it in a more literal term than Victoria Beckham could possibly have! Going from designing a  line of sunglasses, jeans, dresses and his & her perfumes with her sexy hubby, she is now venturing outside of the cookie cutter celebrity hustle to design Range Rovers:

At the recent 40th anniversary of Range Rover, it was announced that Posh was appointed the new Creative Design Executive of the brand and will design the interior of the forthcoming Range Rover Evoque. Here’s what she had to say about the new collaboration:

This is a very exciting collaboration. The classic British heritage of Range Rover and the effortless style, quality and beauty is something I truly admire and also what I hope to achieve with my own brand. I am honored to take on this role and be part of the creative team.

The new car will be officially debuted at the Paris Motor Show in September. So will her mission prove victorious? Will she bring in a new consumer to Range Rover? Anyway, make that money, girl…

The Kardashian’s Open Another Store

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jun 29, 2010 in Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs

And the hustle continues… The Kardashian sisters, along with their mother Kris Jenner, has opened a store in Las Vegas appropriately called “Kardashian Khaos.” To celebrate the opening of their new store, they held a press conference at the Mirage Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Monday:

They announced that their new partnership with Bravada Ltd., TLK Fusion and Mirage Las Vegas will allow them to open a store that will showcase their family designs, which will open in mid-August of this year. *Jay-Z voice* You can’t knock the hustle… I think every socialite/socialite family are almost guaranteed their 15-minutes of fame, but I think the Kardashian’s are past that. Extending their social status’ into an empire, they will be here long after they are no longer interesting to the new-age tabloid readers. With products, businesses, and stores everywhere (or in most places), they will be able to feed their grandchildren. Whatever you do, you can’t knock the hustle.. Read more…

Shakira Launches Her Signature Fragrance

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jun 23, 2010 in Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs, Fragrance

The belly dancing She-Wolf we all love, Shakira, has launched her signature fragrance “S”:

“S by Shakira” was launched in Madrid yesterday and contains an arousing mix of resins such as benzoin, amber and a hint of vanilla, in addition to fresh woods and jasmine. About the fragrance, Shakira had this to say:

“Like a song, a perfume is composed of different individual notes, which together form a harmony.”

“S by Shakira” marks the 1,000,000th fragrance released by a celebrity, putting it in the ranks of celebrity clothing lines. I wonder what will happen when celebs condense, over saturate, and eventually evaporate the true value of what fragrances are. Then what? Make-up lines? Sex toys? Bedding? I think I liked it better when the celebrity side hustle was an autobiography… 0_o

The Kardashian Sisters Package Their “PerfectSkin” And Sell It

Posted by Tara Decoda on Jun 17, 2010 in Beauty News, Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs

*cues “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now” by McFadden & Whitehead* And if that disco hit doesn’t do the trick, I’m sure this will. In their pursuit for entrepreneurial respect, global brand awareness, and undeniable brand identity, the Kardashian sisters are adding “cosmetics entrepreneur” to their resume. The trio will be the new face of skin care brand “PerfectSkin” and kicking things off with an infomercial launching today:

Broken down into three step formulas according to the skin types of the sisters — dry and sensitive (Kim), normal to oily (Kourtney) and oily to acne-prone (Khloe), the PerfectSkin line was created under the guidance of a dermatology expert, Dr. Ron DiSalvo, who has worked on dozens of cosmetic science projects and products in his over forty-year long career span. Each kit includes an antioxidant-rich and balancing cleanser, toner and moisturizer and exfoliating pads, for $29.99, with a luxe set that includes an additional eye cream and mask retailing for $39.99 total. You can check out the official site for the skin care line here.

With prices and star power like that, do you think PerfectSkin has the potential to sit atop the $197 billion global beauty industry?

Miranda Kerr Wants You To Treasue Yourself

Posted by Tara Decoda on May 17, 2010 in Business Ventures/Brand Extensions, Celebs, Models

It seems like industries are getting more (or is it less?) creative when it comes to celebrity products. First it was the celebrity clothing line, then it was the celebrity fragrance, now its the celebrity book?

Don’t get me wrong, celebrities have been writing books and “how-to-be-like-me” guides for forever, but models, who are notoriously for being a few sandwiches short of a picnic, are getting in on the action too (Tyra Banks recently announced she will be writing a fantasy model trilogy). Miranda Kerr has let known to the world that she is writing a book titled Treasure Yourself which will encourage young women to “embrace their individuality.” Here’s what she had to say about her decision to pen the self-help guide:

“You may think it’s easy for me to say, but we all have insecurities. It’s important, as women, to get past all of that and let our talents shine.”

Well, can’t knock the hustle. I guess Miranda will be on Forbes’ “Top Earning Models” list again next year!
