R.I.P. GIANT Magazine

In sad news of the day, another magazine that we love has closed it’s doors to focus on an online presence:

GIANT Magazine, which started in October 2004 and catered to the urban music market, has suspended it’s print edition. Here’s the official word via a press release:

“The economic downturn has had a tremendous impact on print media and we had to make the decision to suspend printing the publication. Additionally we recognize the increase in demand for real time information and see this as an opportunity to leverage our existing robust online platform to better serve GIANT consumers and advertisers through our interactive medium.”

But this is not the end for the GIANT brand. The legendary magazine, most notably known for its creative photography, will launch GIANTLife.com. GIANTLife.com will deliver  celebrity profiles through its product, TheGIANTList, and will also be home of a new video series called Cover Stories hosted by Interactive One’s Chief Content Officer Smokey Fontaine. Cover Stories will debut featuring 12-time Grammy award winner Alicia Keys and forthcoming episodes will feature 50 Cent, supermodel Sessilee Lopez, LisaRaye and actress Paula Patton.
