The 1st Annual WEEN Awards
WEEN (Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network) is an organization that empowers young girls through entertainment. They have dedicated their mission to uplifting young girls with their “I Am WEEN” gala, and their “Don’t Judge Me… Empower Me!” tour. I have personally been affected by the development and efforts of WEEN, whether it be internship opportunities or messages from one of their co-founders, or guest speakers. I even found my mentor, Shakara Bridgers of the Get ‘Em Girls, through WEEN. I have been an active member of the organization since it started and am beyond excited and proud to see how far they have come, having their 1st Annual Awards honoring women who have uplifted and inspired their communities. The event was held yesterday at the Recording Industry Association of America in Washington, D.C.:

Award winning actress and honoree, Vivica A. Fox, attended the event with a gorgeous age and event appropriate look. Love the simple hair and subdued make-up, no need to be doing too much. Congrats on the honor!

The beautiful Malinda Williams, who was also an honoree for the night, looked simple but stunning in this black and white off shoulder dress, with bow top detail. Usually people wear the dress as it comes, which has a slight “potato bag” look, but Malinda added silhouette to he dress by cinching the waist. Good look.

Rocsi hit the red carpet, in what I perceive to be one of the best looks of the night (love those shoes!), with her co-star Terrence J. And while Rocsi’s look is usually very predictable and boring to me, she seemed to hit the nail on the head with this one. Can’t say the same for her co-star. The tie was too fat, the Louis Vuitton belt messed up the idea of it being classy, and the shoes just threw me all off! A nice tailored Tom Ford suit would have suit me just fine, or even Costume National.

Alesha Renee, who I adore to pieces, put me to sleep with this look! She should have upped the glam factor, without doing too much. She hit the carpet with Hill Harper, who I am a HUGE fan of and who was also an honoree for the night! Niiice.
For more red carpet arrivals, look under the cut…

Radio personality, Angie Martinez, hit the carpet in all black everything. Black dress, black booties, all black everything. (Hmmm, Blueprint 3 much?) Love this simple, toned down look on HER. If it was anybody else, it would have been me and them!

Lauren Lake, who I love love love to bits and pieces, is one of the co-founders of WEEN. She has done everything you could possibly think of and dream of accomplishing, and still haven’t broke a sweat. LOVE HER! You can also catch her on the Frankie & Neffe show on BET as their Life Coach, airing now.

Publicist and Brand Strategist, Kristi Henderson (I love her too, she da, she da best!), hit the pink carpet with the biggest boom in beauty right now, dark lips! While it wasn’t necessarily plum (ahh, man), she did a Burgundy hue. Go Kristi!

WEEN Chair, Valeisha Butterfield, hit the carpet in this purple dress with bustier… Zzzzzzz… where was I? I mean, the look was a little boring, especially for the role she plays in the organization and role she would be playing in the ceremony, but she’s fabulous regardless! Get it, V!

Co-founder of WEEN, Sabrina Thompson, did a red one shoulder jersey dress and paired it with leopard print criss-cross sandals and gold jewelry. Love this look on Sabrina! One shoulder asymmetrical is huge on the red carpet right now and for Fall, and pairing red with leopard print is a classic combination. Love it!

MC Lyte, who I love so much and who introduced me on stage when I won a WEEN contest sometime last year, looked very nice and lady like last night. I love it when tomboys get in touch with their inner girly girls.

Pat Harris, who was one of the honoree’s for last night, hit up the pink carpet.

Maria Davis, another honoree, also hit the pink carpet before going inside.

Lauren Lake, Valeisha Butterfield, Sabrina Thompson and Kristi Henderson all took a group shot with honoree Shanti Das (center). Love Lauren’s shoes by the way!

Debra Lee (far left) also attended and stopped to take a group shot with MC Lyte, Rocsi & Terrence, and Vivica Fox.
Great night for everyone!
