The Baby Phat/KLS Fall 2009 show went down last night. While there were a few minor adjustments, such as location and guest list, the show went on and celebs came out:

Monica and my lover boy Mario came out. He also kicked out with Teyana Taylor:

Ice-T and his black Barbie came out.

While all the other designers was attempting to spice up the usual Fall neutrals (brown, black, gray, etc.), Matthew Williamson decided to paint his runway with plenty of color and embellishment, of course mixed in with the expected neutrals. While his front row had some of the hottest young stars, such as Joy Bryant & Zoe Kravitz, his collection proved to be just as hot:

Who said all your orange’s and red’s had to go in the back of the closet when the leaves started changing colors? Matthew Williamson, as usual, held it down for the bad, bold inner city girl. One of my fave collections this week! Bundling cocoon-like ombré coats, leather pants (which are sure to be all the rage this coming fall), spangled dresses and lots of fur. Where was PETA? Let me stop…

The busiest designer in the game, Max Azria, showed one of his three lines that he will be showing this week. BCBG Max Azria can be described as the more fun, but still mature, line from his empire. This line is perhaps my favorite one from Mr. Azria:

Going with plenty of metallics, draped fabric and a bold geometric abstraction of constructivism, Max Azria takes us into the future. Fashion for 2088? Maybe not, but I’ll settle for Fall 2009. To see more from the collection Read more…

Jason Wu, the designer behind Michelle Obama’s Inauguration look, was the show to be at this Fashion Week. Ever since being catapulted to super stardom after the President’s big day, his name has been on every body’s tongue. So of course his show was the one everyone had their eye on:

Wu and his pretty princess theme he has become known for, focused more on dresses this go ’round. He said he was inspired by fairy tales, particularly a book of illustrations by Arthur Rackham that he had as a child. princess gown with sweeping skirts, point d’esprit, body-skimming sheaths, and plenty of jet beading at the hems of skirts and dresses. For the sophisticated fashionista who loves the dramatics would adore this collection. To see more from his Fall 2009 collection Read more…

It’s that time again! Fashion Week is back for Fall 2009, and while it’s not as fancy and dramatic due to economic circumstances, the fabulous still ensues. First up, Yigal Azrouël:

Yigal Azrouël brought the hard edged glamour with dark colors, over the knee boots, cape jackets, and leather pants. Although not straying too far from familiar territory, the designer did try a couple new things. “The evolution of the collection is mostly in the proportions. It’s less layered than in the past. I focused on a clean and lean silhouette,” the designer said in a preshow interview. This daring collection is for the every day it girl. One must have it, know it and own it to rock this.

Fall 2009 fashion week has officially kicked off as of yesterday, but not with out the annual Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection:

Nia Long came out in a fab Tracy Reese dress and Christian Louboutin pumps.

Brittany Snow came out in a Marchesa dress

Amanda Bynes wore an interestingly fabulous red dress by Daniel Swarovski and paired it with Yves Saint Laurent platform pumps.

Hilary Duff rocked a beautiful Donna Karan gown. Love the make-up.

Fierce one Vivica A. Fox rocked this sequined Jenny Packham gown.

Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling (in Betsey Johnson) had a little 90210 reunion on the carpet.

Valerie Bertinelli looked gorgeous

CBS news anchor Katie Couric rocked a slinky gown by Carmen Marc Valvo

Nastia Liukin rocked a short little number by Max Azria
For those who don’t know, The Heart Truth features as a Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. This symbol links a woman’s focus on her ‘outer self’ to the need to also focus on her ‘inner self’ and her heart. To check out the runway Read more…

First Lady Michelle Obama is gracing the March cover of Vogue, she is only the second first lady to do so:

This cover was shot by Annie Leibovitz just days before the inauguration at the Hay-Adams Hotel, and she is wearing a magenta silk sheath dress by Jason Wu. The same designer who made her Inaugural gown. Good look for Mrs. Obama.
Here are her other photo’s:

Because I am all about solutions, and I love giving people makeovers, I bring to you again: What They Should’ve Wore- Grammy Edition:
1. Leona Lewis

What was wrong with this picture? Well, this ill-fitting nude gown, blonde hair and tan skin was just a tad too much. Now don’t get it twisted, she should very well pull out all stops because she was a nominee and have every right to. But perhaps this Oscar de la Renta dress and shoes, and Kenneth Jay Lane collar necklace would have done the trick. Perhaps a bun too, we’ve never seen that on Leona. This outfit is fit for a nominee and the pulled up style on the leg would have added an element of sexy-ness to the usually boring Leona. This would have definitely turned heads. Problem solved.
2. Keyshia Cole

What was wrong with this picture? Well, this half mini-dress/half sheer gown pressing against her breasts was just not poppin’! Keyshia is just all too fabulous for this. This Tadashi gown with the split up the leg would have gave her the element of class and surprise she was obviously going for, and it wouldn’t surpress her breast neither. It would have done the job of balancing out her figure that she always seem to miss. The Giuseppe Zanotti fishbone sandals would have been the best part of the slit, and the ring with crystals around it and black stone in the middle would have summed up the black and silver theme.
3. Solange Knowles

What was wrong with this picture? Well, that dress did nothing for her body and it wasn’t Grammy appropriate. This Tibi dress is playful and bright, which is much of what Solange has made her signature. The ruffles going down the center and sheer sleeves would have been beautiful against her skin and complimented her style. Silver wasn’t even an option for this look so of course it was paired with gold Jimmy Choo’s and gold Leiber clutch with pinkish stones all over.
4. Paris Hilton

What was wrong with this picture? Where should we start…. the outdated Versace dress? Or just the fact that she forgot she was at the Grammys? Whatever reason you want to start with, this Temperley London 20’s inspired mini dress with the fringed bottom solves the problem. It allows Paris to keep the mini-dress party girl look she was going for, but just a lot more Grammy appropriate. And not to mention the Givenchy sandals adds a pop of color and some edge. Now, THAT’s hot!

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards went down last night at the Staples Center. While the red carpet this year was a tad blah and boring to me, I have to bring it to you regardless:

Jennifer Hudson made her appearance in a RM by Roland Mouret trenet high neck dress and Christian Louboutin pumps. She looked fabulous, and the dress looked amazing on her. However, wasn’t feeling the pumps with this dress. Fab chick none the less. HIT

My fellow Aries, Leona Lewis, showed up in a nude Randi Rahm gown. Not really feeling the hair or the fit of the dress. Chick has a great body and she always seem to effortlessly lead us to believe otherwise. MISS.

Best dressed of the night, Miley Cyrus, hit the carpet in a Max Azria original. As she puts it, “he bedazzled it just for me”. Miley accessorized her look with a Max Azria Atelier bag, BCBG heels, and jewels from Mimi So and Atelier Swarovski. HIT

Breakout star of the box office smash hit ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, Freida Pinto, has more than talent up her sleeves:

With all the recognition and awards Slumdog Millionaire has been receiving lately, it’s only right that we notice the stars too. But it’s one star that shines brighter than most. Freida Pinto, a 24-year old born in Mumbai, India, received her big break when she starred in Slumdog (which was her first movie). With the success of the movie and Hollywood’s instant embrace, it was award season time when I realized Freida was an emerging style star:

Freida’s classic style includes mostly solid nude and pastel colors, with the occasional print and metallic finishes. Clutches and peep-toe pumps, with minimal jewelry completes most of her looks. While the recent success of her film allows her to wear some of the best names in fashion, such as Zac Posen & Marchesa, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin seem to be her go-to guys (and obviously H&M
). As for the jewelry, nothing less than the best of course, rocking Lorraine Schwartz and H. Stern on most occassions. Definitely an emerging style star!
