SALE! I guess the recession doesn’t work in everybody’s favor:
Model, mommy and designer (and for those who know her best as Matthew McConaughey’s girlfriend), Camila Alves is in hot water with LA hot shopping spot, Kitson. The Brazilian mommy’s high end handbag line, Muxo, has flopped at the popular store and gone into the discount heap alongside the Lauren Conrad Collection and Victoria Beckham’s dVb Denim range.
Not only is the line flopping, she owes the boutique a whopping $25,000. How you ask? The boutique spent $50,000 on the handbags, which came all the way from Brazil, but only managed to sell half. The poor (or no) sales are due to lack of promotion, even at 60 percent off (with a free DVD of McConaughey’s “Surfer Dude” for every purchase) Muxo still isn’t moving:
“When Camila launched Muxo in August last year she told us she was ready for hard work and was going to do all she could to promote the line,” said a Kitson rep. “But she hasn’t even been into the store once since and we can’t even get in contact with her.”
Another reason could also be the price points:
“The price point is ridiculous; she can’t compete with Gucci and Louis Vuitton if she’s not going to even promote it. Camila also promised to build a Muxo diaper bag but never delivered,”
Although Kitson is having a little trouble getting the line out, Alves’ camp claims the bags are selling like hot cakes. But they’re not the only ones. According to Bettina Duncan, owner of Bettina Duncan at Fred Segal which also stocks the line, Muxo is selling up a storm:
“Our clients are tired of the ubiquitous big brand names. They are looking for the unusual, stylish, individual designers that offer something really unique. All in all, the bags have been an immediate hit in a very tough market,”
Although these claims could be true, a Kitson rep spat back saying:
“Why buy at Bettina when you can buy the same bag at Kitson for 60 percent off? How many bags have they really sold, in this economy no one wants to be seen showing off a luxury handbag, an inside source was at the recent Muxo trunk show at Fred Segal and no one bought a bag.”

The line will be carried exclusively in Liverpool department stores. I must say, I’m loving the setup of her section:
But what about the recession? Isn’t it risky to expand in the midst of such turbulent financial times? Obviously not. Kimmy Lee told The Associated Press that the best way to fight the downturn is to seize opportunities. She also went on to say that they have downsized a bit in terms of venue for the upcoming New York Fashion Week, but [she says] “we will never walk away from fashion. We will never turn our back on fashion.”
Snaps to that girl! Neither will we.

I’m not sure how good of a choice this is, especially since Rihanna has NEVER been on the cover of VIBE (besides the now defunct VIBE Vixen, in which she was the last cover girl). Beyonce, or even Solange,would have been a better choice. My no-no’s for this cover would have been between Ms. Cole and Ms. Mariah Carey. She cute and err-thang, but “Style Star”?
The cover is super cute though… Keyshia is definitely getting a lot more sexier these days, and I am loving it. To see super cute pictures of Keyshia at the Trumpet Awards in Atlanta (that I meant to post a while ago)… Read more…

The 15th Annual SAG Awards went down tonight (Januaray 25th), and with this year being the biggest year in movies, the stars pulled out their Sunday’s Best (literally):
Eva Longoria Parker brought along the hubby Tony Parker. Eva looked stunning in a peach chiffon Jenny Packham gown and H. Stern jewels. Loves it. HIT
Ugly Betty star America Ferrera wore a nude Vera Wang gown and Fred Leighton jewelry. The dress was risky but she pulled it off. HIT
SAG (and Oscar) nominee for Best Supporting Actress, Taraji P. Henson wore a simple white Herve Leroux gown. Pretty simple, especially being that she was a nominee. I just want to see Taraji come harder, way harder. But still not bad. HIT (but barely)

For the official swearing in ceremony of her husband President Barack Obama, Michelle wore a yellow gold and green ensemble by Cuban designer Isabel Toledo and gloves from J. Crew. The First daughters Malia and Sasha both wore coats from J. Crew.
Quick Fact: the bible they used in the swearing in ceremony is the same bibleAbraham Lincoln used at his Inauguration. This is the first time that bible has been used since then.

Red Carpet Style The 2009 Golden Globes went down on Sunday, and of course it was less about who will win what and more of who wore what. So shall we?
Ms. Bey Sting looked fabulous as all hell in an Elie Saab Haute Couture gown and finished off her look with her favorite jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. HIT… right out the park
Blake Lively left question marks in my head with this Nina Ricci number. I thought the dress was ill fitted (Blake has an amazing body!), and the large sequin detailing in the dress made the Fred Leighton jewels over whelming. MISS
Jennifer Lopez rocked a draped Marchesa dress, which was one of the only Marchesa dresses on the red carpet being that she took all of them and only allowed Miley Cyrus to wear one. This dress is very reminiscent of that much talked about green Versace dress she wore to the Grammy’s several years back, only this time she’s married with twins and a lot more curvier. Loves it! HIT
Eva Mendes rocked a statement making Dior dress and a turquoise Van Cleef & Arpels necklace to add a pop of color, and finished off the look with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch. HIT
